The Byng Street Hotel

Warmth and welcome in Orange. There are two hotels on Byng Street, the Gladstone and the Byng Street Boutique Hotel. You definitely want the latter. The Byng Street Boutique Hotel is the passion and joint creation of, Thomas and Kristen Nock, a husband-and-wife team.

You will meet both Thomas and Kristen as most days they are working the front desk or the restaurant, greeting and looking after their guests.

The original building was built in 1896 as a family home. The building was fairly dilapidated when Tom and Kristen bought it in 2014 but they had a passion for small hotels and a vision of restoring an important piece of Oranges history and merging it with a modern custom designed hotel.

The merger of the historic and the modern was performed with respect to the history of the building, being very clear as you enter what is the old and what is the new.

Transition from New to Old

The award winning Byng Street Boutique Hotel is the result of one family’s vision and passion for luxury accommodation in Orange NSW.

Thomas and Kristen Nock have worked in the hospitality and service industry for the entirety of their careers and have combined their skills and love of quality offerings to deliver the regions’ most illustrious boutique hotel.

Thomas has over 30 years of hospitality experience, including work and study in Switzerland, working at the prestigious Lanesborough Hotel in London. He was part of the opening team of the Sir Stamford Kent Street.

Kristen’s love of hospitality was formalized at the William Blue Hotel Management School before she worked in illustrious hotels such as The Westin in Sydney, and then spent 16 years working up to the role of Senior Manager of Catering at VenuesLive, a leading provider of management and hospitality services to venues and events.

From the street it looks like one of the beautiful old federation homes you see on every block in the Orange inner city. Its only when you drive onto the property and pull up at the parking zone do you realize how cleverly the old and the new have been merged. The Hotel entrance is the space between the two zones, a beautiful warm and welcoming space with a small concierge desk, an open fire and comfy lounge space.

The staff are all extremely friendly and in the tradition of old school Hoteliers like Kristen and Tom, they cannot do enough for you. Need private transport? a dinner booking or recommendation?, walking tour advice?, a helicopter ride?. Just ask and the team will sort it out for you.

The rooms are top notch, comfortable and importantly for Orange, well insulated and warm. The beds are comfortable and the facilities modern and easy to use. The design of the rooms is very well thought out with each room having a view of gardens or hedging and all of them having a view of blue sky.

The Hotel Room

Each evening the team will make and turn down your bed and they leave a tray with tea and some little sweet thing made by the team in the kitchen, just to say ‘Goodnight’ this is a lovely little touch and a lovely thing to come back to your room and be greeted by after a long day tasting wines.

Turn down service

The Hotel breakfast would be the best Cafe in Orange if Tom and Kristen chose to open it to the public. They made the decision that they would prefer to keep the focus on their guests and thus it is a private dining room, guests only. Each breakfast has free coffee (good!), a choice of fresh juices, a granola and yoghurt bowl and a choice of hot meals. The hot menu is seasonal and changes quarterly. It’s one of the best ways in Orange to set yourself up for a day of walking, drinking wine or whatever else you choose to do.

Breakfast

The Byng Street hotel is one block from the main street and everything in the township is within walking distance.

The Byng Street Hotel gets a Highly Recommended from us, we have been staying here for about half a decade, if you want comfort, great service and great breakfast in Orange, stay here!
